Be Still and Know
letter #005
Carmen Acevedo Butcher invites us into the marsh with her. We hear birds chirping, soft train rumbles, and the crunch of steps on the footpath. Through the gate of Old English, Carmen elevates the richness of language and presence available to us all.
I spend a lot of time in the marsh near our home. You’re invited to come with me, and we can sit together there for ten minutes with “Be still and know that I am God” from Psalm 46.
—Carmen

Carmen, thank you for this beautiful letter from outside the camp. It reconnected me with the history of the English language which I studied and loved as an English major - and then lost after college (a few decades ago). It’s such a gift to go with you to the marsh you share so lovingly about. 💚
This was wonderful. Now I want to learn each translation 😀.
